CORTIER Amédée (1921 - 1976)
The geometrical, cool abstraction of Amédée Cortier is controlled by an unbiased and clean language
of forms, in which the geometrical shapes gradually turn into mere coloured surfaces.
These coloured surfaces stretch out towards the edge and hence take on their own identity with
regard to the total surface. In this sense, Cortier creates a balance between two or three coloured
strips that were intuitively developed. Eventually, all of this results in monochrome works. Cortier
especially plays with the contrast between the pure, intense power of the colour and the size of
the painting. ?Almost nothing to observe, and yet that is what I observe? said Cortier. |
